Welcome

My Great Toe Surgery
Experience (AKA Cheilectomy Surgery)

After going through this myself, I wanted to provide detailed experience through the whole process including the surgery and recovery experience (still recovering). Hoping this helps provide the much-needed info to help anyone looking to get this very common procedure completed. Many times, only those that experienced it can describe.

If you’re reading this, more likely you were in the same boat I was, searching for real-world experience for those with hallux rigidus and wanting to know if the cheilectomy surgery is right for you. I found there was a lack of that to be found. Although for the few great resources found, I listed them on my resource page.

The lack of great write-ups and experiences out there is one of the main reason’s I am writing this. I learned many things along the way that wished I had the information beforehand or learned more of what to expect for recovery, pain and what worked and what didn’t.

Along with the entire day, week and month recovery tracking, I also took progress pictures that you can find on the cheilectomy surgery photos page. If you want to know what the best band-aids to get or surgery pads to use for comfort and size, check out the resources page.

So sit back and get ready to read and learn about the real-world experience, including some pictures of the healing and recovery process that occurred for me.

So to get started, go to preface, and then proceed to Day 0 (surgery day) and so on to see what you may expect.
